I know that feeling.

When I first started the keto diet, I actually GAINED weight and I was quietly very annoyed that on paper keto looked AWESOME, but in reality, it was not working for me as I had expected.

As a former high carb, low fat vegan of 6 years, I had loads of lovely foods and meals I liked to eat. Heck, I even wrote my two published recipe books that were high carb and completely plant based.

But when I found myself falling frequently ill and losing energy and motivation on a vegan diet and then really understanding the mighty benefits of low carb, high fat and keto, I have to admit…I wanted to jump right in, but I was a bit stumped as to what to eat.

On keto we are generally encouraged to eat, well, grass fed butter, coconut oil, nuts, cheese, bacon, fatty meats…

But I found that there’s only so many butter ‘bulletproof’ coffees, fried eggs and fat bombs that a girl can have in a day without 1) getting bored and 2) putting on weight from simply eating too many calories. 

[QUICK ASIDE ON CALORIES: Yes it’s true that not all calories are equal and 100 cals of coconut oil has a vastly different and superior effect on your body than 100 cals of sugary cake…BUT, the fact is that – keto or not – if you consume too many calories of anything then you will gain weight.

You simply cannot break the first law of thermodynamics which states that energy is not lost or gained but it can change form – i.e. excess calories that aren’t used up are stored as fat on your hips, belly and thighs!] 

I needed some meal inspiration to help me nail this keto diet and get the results I wanted.

But here’s the trouble with just Googling ‘keto diet recipes’…

As you’ll know there are a gazillion keto recipe blogs with beautiful pictures, inspiring blurbs and delicious looking versions of our favorite non-keto foods.

That’s all fine and good and they have their place.

BUT…

Unlike any other diet, keto requires PRECISION.

Precision in your macronutrients of each meal and each day’s set of meals (around 70-80% fat, 15% protein and 5% carbs) but also precision in your daily MICRONUTRIENTS – things like alkaline mineral electrolytes, and calorie-balanced too.

If we just pick a few recipes in isolation that are all keto but not OPTIMISED for your micronutrients and calories as well as your macros…

You. Will. Fail.

Sorry to break it to you. This is tough love my friend.
